Strategic Retreat

Humbly, darling, I mention this:
Before we ever had kissed a kiss,

Before we ever had even met
I got along, in a way, my pet.

I grew through childhood, I went
Through school,
And wasn't exactly a perfect fool.

I even managed as I do now,
To earn a salary check somehow.

Modestly, dearest these facts I cite
To show my judgment at times was right,

That now and then ere I wedded you,
My bean worked wisely a time or two.

And now that we're married one might expect
That once in a while I'd be correct.

All right! All right! I won't
Prolong
The controversy-again I'm wrong!
